Swedish massage consists of long, flowing rhythmic strokes to promote relaxation. Techniques used include effleurage, petrissage, friction and tapotement. Deep tissue massage consists of Swedish techniques and specific techniques such as stripping and trigger point therapy to access deep layers of fascia and muscle tissue. Deep tissue massage is employed to address pathological and excessive muscular tension. It is also used to break up scar tissue and speed injury recovery. This type of massage can include intense stretching of the muscle fibers and can cause soreness similar to the feeling of a hard workout at the gym. $70/hour, $90/90 minutes, $125/2 hours.
Hot stone massage is a specialty treatment that utilizes smooth, heated basalt stones (black volcanic rock) of various sizes during the course of the treatment. Traditional Swedish effleurage is applied to warm up the muscles, then stones are used to massage the muscles letting the heat penetrate the fascia and muscular tissue to soften and relax tense muscles. Hot stone is especially beneficial to stiff, sore joints and muscles during the winter months to combat the cold. $100/90 minutes, $135/2 hours.
